The Solo Stove Pi Prime and the Ooni Koda 2 are both propane-only outdoor ovens with a cordierite stone deck, and both are rated from 510 °C (950 °F). The Pi Prime is built around a 13-inch front opening and weighs 13.6 kg (30 lb); the Koda 2 takes a larger 14-inch pizza and weighs 16 kg (35 lb). Pick by the size and weight you actually want, because the two don't separate much on anything else both makers publish.

The short answer

Choose the Pi Prime if…

  • You'd rather have the lighter of the two: 13.6 kg (30 lb) against the Koda 2's 16 kg (35 lb).
  • A 13-inch opening is as large as you need.
  • You want the narrower footprint side-to-side: 52.1 cm against the Koda 2's 54.5 cm.

Choose the Koda 2 if…

  • You want the larger of the two pizza sizes: a 14-inch pizza against the Pi Prime's 13-inch opening.
  • You want the shallower footprint front-to-back: 47.2 cm against the Pi Prime's 52.1 cm.
  • You want the lower-profile of the two: 33.3 cm tall against the Pi Prime's 39.4 cm.

Where they differ

Pizza size

The Pi Prime's front opening is stated at 13 inches; the Koda 2 is built for pizzas up to 14 inches — a 1-inch difference. If you regularly stretch a dough closer to 14 inches, the Koda 2's deck is the one built for it.

Weight and footprint

The Pi Prime weighs 13.6 kg (30 lb); the Koda 2 weighs 16 kg (35 lb) — 2.4 kg (5 lb) heavier, or roughly 18% more than the Pi Prime's weight. Footprint doesn't move in one direction between the two: the Pi Prime's published footprint is 52.1 x 52.1 x 39.4 cm, and the Koda 2's is 54.5 x 47.2 x 33.3 cm. Side to side, the Pi Prime is narrower at 52.1 cm against the Koda 2's 54.5 cm. Front to back, that flips — the Pi Prime is deeper at 52.1 cm against the Koda 2's 47.2 cm. And the Pi Prime stands taller at 39.4 cm against the Koda 2's 33.3 cm, so the Koda 2 is the lower-profile of the two. Solo Stove describes the Pi Prime's body as a demi-dome shape over its cordierite stone deck, built around that 13-inch front opening.

Neither oven is smaller than the other across every dimension, so which footprint fits your table or cart depends on which direction you're tight on — width, depth or height — rather than one oven simply taking up less room overall.

What doesn't separate them

Solo Stove states the Pi Prime's maximum as above 510 °C (950 °F) without saying how far above; Ooni states the Koda 2's as 510 °C (950 °F). Both start from the same number, and Solo Stove gives no figure for any gap, so there is no published margin to weigh.

Fuel is not a difference between them either: both run on propane alone, per each oven's own spec sheet, with the burner built into the oven rather than sold as a separate accessory.

What neither tells you

Neither maker publishes a maximum floor temperature for either oven, so that figure can't be compared between the Pi Prime and the Koda 2 at all — it's simply absent from both spec sheets.

Preheat time is published for only one of the two: Solo Stove states the Pi Prime reaches cooking temperature in 15 minutes. No equivalent figure is published for the Koda 2, so there's nothing to set that 15-minute number against — it describes the Pi Prime alone.

Fuel use follows the same pattern. Solo Stove publishes a propane burn time for the Pi Prime — up to 20 hours from a standard 20 lb tank on its highest setting — which works out to roughly a pound of propane per hour of running time. Ooni doesn't publish an equivalent burn-time figure for the Koda 2, so there's no maker-stated number for the Koda 2 to set against the Pi Prime's 20 hours. Both ovens still need a propane tank either way; only one of the two makers states how long a tank lasts.

Ooni's own listing describes the Koda 2 as reaching its stated 510 °C (950 °F) maximum with a plug-and-play setup that Ooni says takes minutes. Solo Stove makes no equivalent setup-time claim for the Pi Prime beyond its stated 15-minute preheat, so there's no maker-stated setup figure for the Pi Prime to set against Ooni's claim for the Koda 2.

Both ovens sit on the outdoor pizza oven hub alongside the rest of the gas, wood and electric lineup, where you can see how they compare against larger and smaller models by size, weight and published temperature. If 13 or 14 inches isn't the size question you're actually trying to answer, Ooni Koda 2 vs Koda 16 covers the bigger jump to a 16-inch deck using the same Koda 2 as one side of that comparison.

Whichever of these two you end up with, if leopard spotting isn't showing up on the crust once the oven is in regular use, no leopard spots on pizza crust covers what the floor actually needs to produce real charring — a well-fermented dough meeting a floor around 400 °C (750 °F), which is the same target on a Pi Prime or a Koda 2 launch.
